There are pros and cons between Plasma and LCD flat-panel
televisions but not as many as you might think.
Plasma displays panels use a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells that
are charged by electrical voltages to emit light and create a picture
image.
Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) panels - trap a liquid crystal
solution between 2 sheets of polarized glass. When an electric current
passes through the crystals, they change the polarization of light
passing through the polarized glass. LCD panels do not generate light
but subtract light generated by a back-light source to create a picture
image
The differences between Plasma TVs and LCD TVs:
Plasma gives you deeper blacks for better contrast,
better pixel response times, but suffer from burn-in. LCD TVs on the
other hand use much less power (30-40% less), do not suffer burn-in, are
good for computer use and will be better for viewing that is closer than
9 feet as and LCD panel renders a smoother picture than it's equivalent
Plasma TV of the same size. Both of these TVs have a lifetime use of
approximately 60,000 hours.
